extra work

Michael Gondry

Michael Gondry was born on 8th May 1963 he was born in France in a town called Versailles he is well known as a director, commercial, music video director he has won many academy awards in winning scriptwriter. He has been well noted foe his visual style and manipulation of mis-en-scene.
In the past Gondry has directed many different films the most well known and successful one was Eternal sunshine of a spotless mind which had been realesed in 2004 his other well know film was Human Nature which he had made a debut in 2001.
Gondry has won many different academy awards he has directed musical directory Dave Chappelle’s block party.
In 2006 he had made a debut as a installation artist at detach projects in New York.

The Work of Director Michel Gondry invites the lucky viewer into a wonderland of childlike imagination. Before the Versailles-born Gondry turned his creative ingenuity to feature films (beginning with the underrated Human Nature and the 2004 Jim Carrey comedy Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), these 27 music videos and assorted "stories and things" formed a legacy of supreme cleverness, suggesting a creative lineage from the pioneering film magic of Georges Méliès to the groundbreaking experimental films of Norman McLaren.
It's perfectly fitting that the accompanying 75-minute documentary is titled "I've Been 12 Forever," because Gondry (b.1964) never lost the sense of wonder and inventiveness that children display when their minds are allowed to flourish in a creative environment. No wonder he's best known for his dazzling collaborations with Icelandic pop star Björk, resulting in music videos (seven included here) that redefined the magical potential of the medium. Each, in its own way, is a masterpiece of the fantastic.

What's also remarkable about Gondry's work is its technical progression, from the homemade crudeness of his earliest videos for the French band Oui Oui, to the technical wizardry of Kylie Minogue's "Come Into My World", in which the Australian pop star is seamlessly multiplied as she strolls around a busy Parisian intersection; like many of Gondry's videos, it's a stunning "how-did-they-do-that?" work of art, reminiscent of Zbigniew Rybcynski's prize-winning 1982 short "Tango". From the hilarious dreamworld of the Foo Fighters' most popular video "Everlong" to the painstaking pixilation of Gondry's videos for the White Stripes (one made entirely of animated Lego blocks), this DVD is packed with Gondry's tireless pursuit of perfection; he'll do whatever's necessary, no matter how simple or complex, to achieve perfect harmony between song, artist, and visual concept. All the while, he's drawing from a seemingly endless well of inspiration, as evident in the delightful 52-page booklet of stories, drawings, photos, and interviews that chronicle the eternal sunshine of a brilliant mind. --Jeff Shannon

music video production

there are many different types of music video's some are from a large variety of different genres such as from hip-hop to rock groups such as girls aloud to nickel back but how do they really make a music video so could that make you and me watch the video? music video's are well known in the music indusrty. these video are mainly aimed for the markerting indusrty to promote the music and the sale of the music recordings.
music video started in the late 1980's and have become a lot more popualr in the last decade. music videos use a wide range of stiles of movie makingtechniques which include aniamtion, live action, documentaries and many more.
In 2000, the music video for "Rock DJ" by Robbie Williams caused controversy due to the graphic nature of the video which featured Robbie Williams appearing naked and peeling off his skin to reveal flesh. The video was censored in the UK and was only once broadcast uncensored at 2:00 AM. The video was banned in Dominican Republic due to allegations of satanism Björk's 2001 song, "Pagan Poetry", was banned from MTV for depictions of sexual intercourse, fellatio, and body piercings. Her next single, "Cocoon", was also banned by MTV as it featured a nude Björk. Madonna's video for "Erotica" was aired only three times (each time after midnight) due to its sexual depictions of sadomasochism. More recently, Madonna's "What It Feels Like for a Girl" was banned in 2001 due to its graphic depiction of violence. She also pulled her "American Life" video because of its controversial military imagery that seemed inappropriate once the War in Iraq began; subsequently, a new video was made for the song.
In 2002, the video for "All The Things She Said" by Russian duo t.A.T.u. caused controversy as it featured the young girls, Lena Katina and Yulia Volkova, embracing and eventually kissing. UK TV presenters Richard and Judy campaigned to have the video banned claiming it pandered to pedophiles with the use of school uniforms and young girls kissing, although the campaign failed. Capitalizing on the controversy, the kiss was choreographed into their live performances. Top of the Pops aired the girls' performance with the kiss replaced by audience footage. NBC's The Tonight Show with Jay Leno cut away from the girls' kiss to shots of the band. Throughout their promotional tour, t.A.T.u. protested by appearing in shirts reading "censored".
As of 2005, the Egyptian state censorship committee has banned at least 20 music videos which featured sexual connotations due to Muslim moral viewpoints. In 2004, many family groups and politicians lobbied for the banning of the Eric Prydz video "Call on Me" for containing women dancing in an sexually suggestive way, however, the video was not banned. At some point in the past, the video for "AINT" by Marilyn Manson was banned by that artist's label due to its violence and sexual content. In 2008, Justice's video for their song "Stress" was boycotted by several major music television channels due to allegations of racism and violence; the video depicts several youths committing various crimes throughout the streets of Paris, with the youths mainly being of North African descent.

critical approaches to media products

there are mabny things you could to get the audiences eyes such as advertising the major products the director that i had choosen for my project had verified this in many ways he had been a director for many popular music video naming the most popular bands such as Red Hot Chillie Peppers and many other bands like that he had also created some movies. He is a french born person that had lived in france and then suddenly became popualar. Micheal Gondry grew up in Versailles with a family who was very influenced by pop music. When he was young, Gondry wanted to be a painter or an inventor. In the 80s he entered in an art school in Paris where he could develop his graphic skills and where he also met friends with whom he created a pop-rock band called Oui-Oui. The band released 2 albums ('Chacun tout le monde' and 'Formidable') and several singles until their separation in 1992. Gondry was the drummer of the band and also directed their video clips in which it was possible to see his strange world, influenced by the 60s and by his childhood.as the years progressed hollywood became intrested in his work and he had directed the film Human Nature in 2001.
his video clips are commercial, he had become a pioneer for many years and for many different things such as IAM was the first clip that he had used for morhimng techniques,. this technique was first used in the commerical for insurance and in the well known film Matrix. His 1994 Drugstore spot for Levi's 501 Jeans holds the record for most awards won by a TV commercial.

essay

As a group we all were in charge of making our own responsibilities, not just by giving each of us a task to do but as a group we had come to together and combined it. As a group we had made up the lyrics and also the music to it. I was the one who had thought of the idea of making it into a Indian kind of style music as it would be different to the other groups. However, with the creation I had made it was an interesting and also vulnerable choice to make as this was totally different to what the class mates in our class would think off.
In this video I was the main typical heartbroken girl that I played so in this project my first responsibility was to arrive on time and most importantly was to always be there. Although I was the main person I was the one who had come up with the theme and also the locations of where to film our video with much interest Sharney had helped as Amy had mostly come up with the lyrics and Sharney had mostly done the camera shots and editing. So in this project we all had a say and had listened to each other and had taken our thoughts carefully.
As I was the main person in the video I had contributed in many ways I had thought of many sound effects to make and also the location however, we all take credit for this because we all had come together and had thought about our location so in this project it wasn't just one person agreeing to it all. This project I would give credit to all of us as we had a great success on great team work we all had got on well.
I great success in this project is I got to say my own opinion and also I didn't feel uncomfortable of sharing ideas we. With my knowledge we had completing a great music video naming it memories. We had titled this music at the last miniature because we didn't know what to call it but we called it memories because in the video it shows a lot of the past tense and it makes much more sense. I had learnt a lot about this projects as I learnt many camera shots and also the amount of things you can do with a camera. I didn't get the change to do any shooting because I was the main person but in the future I would like to make an attempt on learning it.

there are many different things i had learnt from this project working in a group of three i had come to know what the kind of people i had worked with i. i did not take in any part of setting the camera out or how i would like some shots to be although i had some ideas and had summed it up with the rest of the group. from the start of the year i had no idea on some of the camera shots and how many there could be such as using MCU for the majority part of our video. Working in front of the camera was the big deal i had played however, working as a group i had learnt many things for instance how many things i could do with the camera and also the amount of frame shots a could take. in addition, how to actually create our own music with the garage band programme we had successfully completed our music. which had lead us to complete our lyrics however, making our own lyrics Jessica had helped us create our chorus and Amy had come up with the vast majority of lyrics which lead to me and Sharney helping out as well.
I felt like i should have done more editing in this projects although i had helped logged but i would give Amy and Sharney the most credit in the editing part although i had captured it after as we had to do it manually because we had thought we had lost all of our footage in which my tape had played up but in the end i had captured the footage manually. on the first of editing in the morning the day hadn't come out well at all we all had struggled to get our video up but as the day had progressed we had finally done some of the editing and had completed some of the effects that we had wanted.
during this project i had felt like i had contributed to all the conversations i had had with the group if there was any information missing or that i did not understand i would ask again to actually know what i am doing. there were some points in which me and the group had struggled on and had depended on the tutors to help us. after a week of needing help we had asked the tutors yet again to help and on the day of our pitch we had come together and had done what Tim had asked for and this had lead us to start filming.
looking at back our finalized project there could be some many things i could change such as the locations for instance we originally planned to do the middle bit (Indian beat) in the dancing studio's but this didn't work out as we couldn't get a room. i think the shots in our video could have been slightly more better such as the shot of me and Dean coming out of the cinema this shot did look a bit dodgy but this might just be my eyes but you can see the camera moving slightly as if the camera was not fitted on the tripod carefully.
if i had to this project again i would definitely change some of the structures for instance always create a plan B in case our ideas don't go to plan for example some of the locations we had planned to do some things at the last minute. before doing our video we had many idea's planned and hoped that we could add some other things to the clips such as the original plan was to have a Henna night for the Indian beat things did nit turn out as well as we had hoped. so there are many things we may have re considered.
When watching our unfinished clip to the class we had analyzed one another video's together and had jotted some of the positive and negative things down. when we had watched ours i had felt a little uncomfortable 1. because i was in it 2. i felt like there was more things we could have added to the video. but overall i think we had put a lot of effort into our work.
the amount of feedback that we had got was not as much there was so many positive things but not many negative as Thursday lesson with John we were meant to sit as a group and analyze everybody together but thongs didn't quite turn out that way so i really don't know what negative things we have in our video.
there are many things that had gone right but many things that gone wrong such as we had planned to use the dance studio to write the letter at the beginning of the video and also for the bit where Dean breaks up with me. however, we had solved our problems out by using a different type of room we had used the photography room and also the digital room for both scenes.
the target audience for this video i would have to say would be for typical teenage girls because its about a boy that's been cheating on his girlfriend. and also teenage girls would understand how the girl is feeling.
overall, i think as a group we had made a great video as from the start of the project we all were lost and did not have a clue on what our music will be on and and also how we were going to produce a kind of music that we were expected to produce. i had learnt many things form this project as well as understanding this project. having editing our video we had put it up on You Tube and had successfully compressed it on CD.

treatment

Treatment

We had a great idea on how exactly we want our video. With lots of pictures and black and white filming used we had come together as a group and had developed a great plan on how we wanted it.

On Monday starting to film we did have a great difficulty of where to film we knew exactly how what we wanted to do it. But in the end we had found a room in which there would be a scene of me (Arti) writing a letter to the boy that had left me (Dean). We had wanted to this scene because it connects well with the lyrics and in the video it shows how she feels about the relationship. So in this scene it expresses how she feels about it all. With just 10seconds into it we had decided to add images of some of the memories that the guy and girl had. We wanted this to connect with the letter.

We had used different locations where to shot and in which this shows that the couple had been going out for a long time. With the locations of the cinema, town, park and the restaurant our ideas had changed and we had progressed to do more than we could such as our original plan was to get the class involved with one scene which was going to be the henna night in which the guy confesses but we had changed it and had just me in the middle with 5 or 6 classmates and had made it look better.

It would look good on screen think because after editing it it with a lot of effects such as all the black and white images look like she is dreaming it because it is kind of blurred out as if the girl is dreaming. There are also some clips where you see her crying sitting on a bench. I think this song is not depressing at all as you can see the good times they have had and see that she can not cope with the betrayal.

The beat to our music goes well with the video. In addition, in the middle of the video you see the ending of the relationship in which we had added a quiet Indian beat to it as I am the girl who is Indian and we had decided to turn our music more like and Indian thing. As you can see from the opening of the video you see that the girl is writing her letter in an Indian dress from this you can see that the video will be based on a little bit of Indian background. Further into the video in the middle you see me again in an Indian dress and that is when the Indian beat comes into it. We decided to this because it we thought it would be different compared to others in the class.

When it came to shooting we had added a few clips of just town itself and had also added clips from me walking out some shops such as Anne Summers to emphasises the moment of my sadness. However, looking into the structure of this video we had also had taken a few more shots of me just in case we had didn’t have much footage.

Editing came easy for us as we had much footage we had many parallel amounts of editing as we had fixed many different clips together. We also had added quick log and capture to make our video a bit more interesting.

There were many different shot sizes we had done such as over shoulder shots e.g. when writing the letter at the beginning of the video you see a lot of close up shots and also some over shoulder shoots of me writing. There also is a shot of me walking into of the camera and out of the camera and also you see me walking with my back turned against the camera. In many scenes we had created some of the shots to be long and also some close up shots in the chorus you can see that we had done a close up shot of Amy and also at the end of the song we had done another one with her saying “I hope your happy”. With many different shots we had also done a shot where all the pictures of the couple falling down in front of the camera this was the main shot we had used. We had used mainly used long shots for most of our video.

Our video was mainly full of memories in which we had many flash backs in which we had used a variable amount of shots in order to make our video look more presentable.

The mis en scene for our video was located in many different places such as in town, the park, college and also the college resturant “Shelly's”. in this video we did not need to use many props for our project. However, I had brought some of my Indian clothes in which I had needed for the beginning of the video and the middle of the video. We didn't need that many crops but Amy had brought in her camera in order to take some pictures of me and Dean together in which we will throw on the floor. The costumes in the video were different colours as the Indian clothes were bright colours used but in the video you can not see most of the clothes that I wear because the video is mostly based in black and white.

we had used a vary amount of sounds with pur music to keep the track up beat we had used a bit of indian in it and also had used a lot of different variety of instruments to get our track done. the sound of the music works out well with the lyrics as there is a lot of beat ans its not to fast its at the right pace for a depressing music video music video.

Ther target audiance for this video is mainly aimed at mostly teenegers mostly for girls because the whole video is about a girl who has just been left heartbroken. i think this kind of music would be mostly be screened on you tube and also maybe on some channels but our video is not the best of the best so i think we have done well and have come up with a great idea however, in many ways i think we could have done much better but o well!

synopsis

Synopsis

In my music video our video is based on a girl getting married and then her fiancé dumps her the day before they get married. She finds out that he has been cheating on her and ends up finding out that he is going to be a father to an unborn child. She then decides to write a letter to him expressing how she feels and how could he be so heartless.

In the video, you see different clips of the pair having a good time together she looks at the memories together which will be pictured in black and white. There are many places where we had shot. You see in clips that she is walking down streets of Ipswich all alone and there is one shot where she is standing outside looking at rings.

With many locations used we also decided to take some pictures of the couple with effects of using black and white to make the whole video look like its all about the memories.

We also added scenes where you see Amy lip sync the chorus the location for this was in the park. We had used the park for some of the clips and also had the college restaurant Shelly’s to help us out in the video.

The main person in this video was me as you may see you don’t see the boy that much Dean as mostly of it is just based on the memories they had together. We had added some of the class friends to take part in our video just to be the background dancers for the henna night that will be held when Dean tells me the truth about how unfaithful he has been to me.

In this music video all of us a group had taken part in giving idea’s so we didn’t really have a director as we all had shared our ideas out. However, Amy and sharney were the main people that had been in charge of the camera.

one day lip sync project

As the snow had progressed in week one we were a week slightly behind. But back on track on Monday 11th January in the morning by John Dempsey we were set to complete a task for the whole day which was to create our own music video using an Abba song given to us by John. We had the opportunity to create our own groups in which me, Sharney and amyl were together. We had quite a fun day creating day but had found it hard at some point as we had filmed the first verse of the song outside which was interesting because the scenery had gave a good expression to our video we had found it slightly hard though because we had no music with us at that time and then successfully had done the chorus in college in the media department where we had you tube to help us out. Sharney and me had started in this little clip whilst Amy had recorded it after an hour of getting all the lines right we had done the third verse outside in the snow where ma and may had been in the scene and Amy had sang to me in this clip we had produced an over should shot in which you could only see Amy sing and then there was another clip where I was at the back and had popped up regularly in the scene. We had finished the song with a scene in the park and had continued the chorus with us in the media department.

In the afternoon after coming back from shooting we had the afternoon to edit the clips and sync it into the actual song. But after going through all the clips we had found out the chorus had not been recorded so we had to shot the scene again which had not taken that long. However, after coming back from shooting the computer had messed up and we had not completed the editing in time but we have nearly finished. On the Thursday that week we had got the editing done and uploaded it on CD.

purpose of music videos

We always use music everyday whether its listening to the radio or even travelling where we always plug our headphones into our ears and dance along to the music. And from then ,music had progressed and then in the early 1990’s MTV was introduced and that when music video’s were introduced as well the British were the first to introduce it to us in which they had sold billions of their albums copies and from then MTV have been so famously popular.

In 2000 new gadgets were introduced and that’s when downloading had began. New gadgets such as iPods, iphones, blackburrys and many more were introduced the music had arisen an increasingly great amount. Such as Beyonce she may not have been as popular as she was ten years ago but with selling at least billion copies of her latest songs she has become a true star by promoting herself such as doing concerts, creating posters, letting people access her web page and many more. and this how many artists get recognized.

In class we were three different tasks to do. In my assignment I have chosen two videos very different from one another one is Michael buble just haven’t met you yet and the other one is Beyonce sweet dreams. Comparing the two videos are very different from one another.

Michael buble just haven’t met you yet

Michael was born in 1975 he is a singer and also a actor he was born in Canada. E was won overall several awards for his music His first singing engagements were in nightclubs at the age of 16 and were facilitated by his Italian grandfather, who was a plumber coming from the county of Preganziol, about 40 kilometers from Padua, Italy, offering plumbing services in exchange for stage time for his grandson. His Italian grandfather also paid for his singing lessons. One of his vocal instructors was Joseph Shore, the opera baritone Bublé's fourth studio album, Crazy Love, was due from 143/Reprise Records on 13 October 2009.] However, an early release in the United States occurred on 9 October 2009. The album contains 12 tracks (and 1 bonus track), including two original songs. Its first single, "Haven't Met You Yet" was released 31 August 2009.

Just haven’t met you yet video

The just haven’t met you yet music video is very up beat as at the start you can tell what kind of location the scenes will be. The location set is in the supermarket where at the start you see the stores name and also the employee’s. As the music plays along you 5seconds into the video you can see that the beat with the music goes with what the employee is doing as she is entering some items into the till the beat of the music goes along with her.
The mis en scene of this video has been done very carefully as you can see that the location of this video has been done in the supermarket but there are many scenes where you see him going thorough one another and see him sitting on the shelves and also walking on the freezer tops. In the middle of the video you can see that he has added various types of people and not just him he has had selection types of people such as an employee price marking and then starting to do a break dance and a cashier dancing whilst serving. You can see that the characters in this video are all having fun as they dance. There video is like something you would imagine in your dreams as 1.13 into the video it looks like he is on the date with her but in the market he also adds a bed 1.29 seconds into the video.
Further into the video at the end of the video he is outside of the store dancing around looking like everyone in the video are having their time of life. People are standing on cars and also confetti has been fallen. However, all the dancing has been in sync they all do the same movement 3.12 seconds into the video.
The ending of the video has been set out as if he has just been standing there singing along whilst paying for his purchases and you see the girl looking at him like he is a weirdo and at the end of the video you see the main girl enter the superstore.
Throughout the video there have been many different types of shots such as close up shots, mid shots, over shoulder shots and many more.
The lyrics goes well with the video because it is up beat and you wouldn’t imagine it to be like that but it goes well wit the lyrics its like him going into the store for food and then he finds love as well.
The lighting in this video has been used very visually as 47 seconds into the video the lighting changes and it looks like he just got stuck with love.
In this video there is a lot of music based instrumental uses such as you can hear a beat if the piano being played and also drums so there is a lot of beat in this piece of music. There is a lot of performance, narrative and concept in this video.
The promo for this video promotes singer really well as you can tell he is a musical kind of person and like up beat music most of his songs are like that and he is a very imaginative person.
This kind of music would be aimed at teens but also adults because he’s not like other artists such as Jay-Z or Eminem he has not rap its all music more like pop so I think this would be aimed at mostly adults ages between 20-30 and some teenagers well I like it and I am 19.

According to Sony, Knowles record sales, when combined with the group, have surpassed 120 million. After leaving destiny’s child Beyoncé got into becoming a solo singer and also a actress with many movies and song out she is noted as one of the best female artists in the world. Sweet dreams

The song sweet dream’s was released last year in her album I am Sasha Fierce. The start of the video she has been located in a dark place with a heart beat. In this video there is also a lot of guitar being played at the start of the song all you can hear is a heart beat and then it becomes more up beat. You also get some close up shots from her only showing her eyes and then from 10seconds on the music become more up beat and you can hear screaming to make the music look more interesting

The location of the start to seconds it shows she has moved from dark room to some light but dark room. The color of her set has changed as it goes from dark to light dark to actual light with a white background. From 28 seconds she also dances to the beat of the music and then suddenly from 37 seconds she has gradually got two dancers at the back of her following her dance moves. The background of her second clip looks like she is in space with her outfit she is wearing also goes with her scene. From 1.15 the chorus the scene changes as she is in a white background with a colourful outfit but this also shows shots done symmetrically. Her dances have been done very quickly and have all been in sync with each other.

From 1.23 seconds from the video there from there there are a lot of side shots taken of her and also her dancers. From 1.26 she has moved scenes very quickly and the lighting of this has changed due to some light blue shady grey kind of colour. In this video there are a lot of majority of close up shots long shots and also side shots. You also get some bird’s eye view shots from 1.45 seconds. There are many scenes in this video from where at the start she had started out in the dark and then slowly progressing to lighter locations.

From 2.53 the scene goes all black and white and then dramatically goes back to a white background. As she is wearing a gold outfit which looks like she is a robot reflects to the camera she is looking straight at the camera. With glass fading from the bottom it looks like she is controlling what is going on with her. She uses the same dance moves throughout the whole video but she walks a lot which keeps to the beat of the rhythm.

The video ends back to a dark setting where she says ‘turn the lights off’ 3.55 into the video.

She has gone in sync with her video and reflects a lot to the video. The audience to this kind of music would reflect to teenagers as there is a lot of hip-hop to her songs and also to her video’s.
